Letter dated July 28, 1905, from Alta L. Smith in Richmond, Virginia soliciting the merits of his inventions, the Fontaine Shock Binder, a patented device that prevents corn shocks from damage and saves the labor of two men. Smith also patented in 1930 a bank protector, a device which locked a bank’s revolving door and protected the security guard during an attempted robbery.
