Summary
Charles Sumner Tainter, inventor and manufacturer of electrical apparatus has been recognized as the father of the talking machine, and much of the material in this collection represents his experimental work on the graphaphone. The collection contains autobiographical writings, records of court testimony in suits involving the phonograph, drawings, notebooks, printed patent specifications, medals, certificates, and photos. This collection represents a fairly comprehensive picture of the early development of the phonograph and Tainter’s substantial contributions to the project.
