On February 22, 1845, Mary Chase of Baltimore, Md., petitioned the Commissioner of Patents to grant her a patent for improvements to a carding and spinning machine. The patent was not granted. Collection consists of the 1845 patent petition (4 pp.) and documents from the Museum of American Textile History gathered in the course of researching the petition, including a letter from the National Archives and photocopies of records from the U.S. Patent Office concerning inventor Moses Chase.
