Penrose R. Hoopes, P.E., of Philadelphia, designed factory equipment and high production automatic machinery. The bulk of this collection shows some of his inventions but lacks images from the later part of his career. The collection depicts machinery, including many different types of presses designed by Hoopes and his consulting company. Not all of the images are identified nor does this collection encompass all the varied work that Hoopes was involved with. There are many views of forges designed for Ferracute Machine Company, Bridgeton, N.J. Also noteworthy is a photo (ca. 1920s) of an early vending machine. By avocation Hoopes was interested in early American clockmaking. Some illustrations from a book of his on the subject are included.
