Summary
The Rogers Family Papers consist of correspondence, manuscripts, pamphlets, clippings, and photographs of the Rogers Family and of a closely connected family, the Clarkes. The most notable individual included in the collection is J. Harris Rogers (1850-1929), a turn of the century inventor. The J. Harris Rogers materials are contained within five series--correspondence series (1856 to 1929), papers, legal papers, notebooks, and clippings. The correspondence deals mainly with Rogers’ invention of the underground wireless, teletype machine, and a telephone; the papers series includes diagrams, notes, ephemera, and patents and pamphlets; legal papers consist of briefs and testimony; the notebooks span the years 1882 to 1929 and record experiments, ideas, and real estate transactions; and the clippings series contains entire issues of magazines too.
