Senior Historian Emerita and Lead Editor, Lemelson Center Studies Book Series

Joyce Bedi is Senior Historian Emerita at the Lemelson Center. She is the lead editor, with co-editors Arthur Daemmrich and Eric S. Hintz, of the Lemelson Center Studies in Invention and Innovation book series with MIT Press, and the co-editor, with Arthur Molella, of the first volume in the series, Inventing for the Environment (2003).

Joyce joined the Lemelson Center at its founding in 1995 and was responsible for the Center’s scholarly publication program and website, and assisted with the development of scholarly programs and exhibitions. She was the curator for the Inventive Minds gallery, a co-curator of the award-winning Places of Invention exhibition, and lead curator for the Picturing Women Inventors exhibition at the museum and for the poster version produced and circulated by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service. She has also authored publications and exhibitions on a range of topics in the history of invention.

Before joining the Lemelson Center, Joyce’s research and curatorial career included positions at the MIT Museum, the Edison National Historic Site, the IEEE History Center, and the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, Australia.
