Summary

The Alabama Inventors Database includes inventors who lived in Alabama at the time they received their patents from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The Government Documents Department of the Birmingham Public Library compiles these records and updates the database on an ongoing basis. Each record contains a link to the Web site of the USPTO where scanned images of the original documents may be viewed using TIFF software. The USPTO webb site contains information about downloading free TIFF viewing software.   Database Coverage (as of Aug 29, 2006), Years Indexed: 1821 - 1974 Sources for the database derived from Annual Report of the Commissioner of Patents for the Year; Index of Patents Issued from the United States Patent Office (annual); and the Official Gazette of the United States Patent Office (monthly) See Digital Documents & Photographs of Alabama Inventors at: http://www.bplonline.org/resources/Digital_Project/default.asp newspaper clippings, pamphlets, and portraits in this collection supplement the patent information in the library’s Alabama Inventors Database.
