Summary
Glenn D. Holmes was a Syracuse city engineer between 1907-1933. His father, Joseph W. Holmes, was the inventor of a solar chronometer. Joseph W. Holmes resided in Batavia, New York. Joseph W. Holmes's diaries include comments concerning trips, meetings, work at his shop, planned improvements to the solar chronometer, and notes on weather and family affairs (1888-1889, 1891). Glenn D. Holmes's diaries recording ordinary daily activities, trips and work on sewerage projects in Batavia, New York, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1897-1902, and a notebook of diagrams and computations for improvements along unnamed sections of the Barge Canal, 1898; includes a pamphlet sewage treatment works in Syracuse.
