Military Invention Day 2017 Highlights

0:16  [Arthur Daemmrich, Director, Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation] "We're at Military Invention Day and we're focusing here on new technologies developed by the armed forces or by independent firms for the armed forces. The idea is to focus on emerging new technologies, what's going to impact all our lives in the future, how these technologies will come into our daily lives. But also, we want to get people to engage and learn about new technology, and also feel empowered to control the technologies in their lives."

0:43  [Gen. Mark A. Milley, Chief of Staff of the Army] "Today, right this minute as we speak, we are in the middle of another change in the character of warfare. There's a very good possibility that whoever kluges together these technologies, these ideas, in the most innovative ways, will prevail."

1:05  [Frederick Steckler, Chief Administrative Officer for the US Patent and Trademark Office] "I'm especially thrilled that this is being held in the Lemelson Center, in the Museum of American History, with which the Patent and Trademark Office has a great collaborative relationship."

1:16  [Soldier visiting Military Invention Day with his family] "I will like for your visitors to understand that the army and also our sister services, we're a great source of innovation."

1:25  [Jennifer Jones, Chair and Curator, Division of Armed Forces History, National Museum of American History] "We have been bringing objects out of storage for the public to see, but we've also been presenting some of the new technology that the military has been able to develop and share with the public to show how invention and innovation have changed American society over the generations."

1:45  [Soldier's wife] "I love to expose our children to STEM type activities such as these, so they can know what options there are."

1:54  [Arthur Daemmrich] "As a team the Lemelson Center really focuses on using perspectives from the history, study of inventors and innovations, to then turn around and communicate to people, but also excite them about the technologies that are coming in the future and how they themselves can be inventors and be inventive in their daily lives."
