Summary

Correspondence, reports, reprints of articles written by Dr. Berry, scrapbooks, and newsclippings relating to his medical career, his family, and his civic activities. Most materials relate to Dr. Berry's practice in the field of gastroenterology, his invention of the Eder-Berry Gastrobiopsy Scope, his training of residents in gastroscopy at Cook County Hospital and career as a professor at the Cook County Graduate School of Medicine ca. 1946-76, and his work at Provident Hospital in Chicago (Ill.), ca. 1935-1970. Scrapbooks (7 v., 1879-1960) containing photographs, college and other programs and announcements, letters, and memorabilia document the lives of Dr. Berry and his parents, the Rev. Llewellyn Longfellow Berry of Virginia, who was secretary of missions for the A.M.E. Church, and Beulah Harris Berry, who compiled the scrapbooks. Dr. Berry graduated from Rush Medical College and presented papers at many professional conferences throughout his career, often as the first or the only African American participant.
