Physical Description

1 file of textual records

Summary

This file or item forms part of the following group of records RG 3-6, Premier Howard Ferguson correspondence. This series consists of correspondence files created or received by Premier Howard Ferguson during his time in office, which are arranged chronologically by year and then alphabetically by file title. Ferguson involved himself more in the day to day operations of the government than earlier premiers, and this series contains a wider range of records than those of earlier Premiers. The number of files per year and their alphabetical coverage suggests that the completeness of the series varies greatly from year to year. There is good coverage for 1925 and 1926, poorer coverage for 1923, 1924, 1928, 1929 and 1930. There are no records for 1927. Major topics include: the Civil Service, Education (Ferguson was also Minister of Education), the Hydro Electric Power Commission (HEPC), road improvements, the Ontario Temperance Act referendum, the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway (T&NO), unemployment, the coal situation (whether to import coal from Pennsylvannia or Alberta), and the Workmen's Compensation Board.
