Fay worked as an agent for A.L. Elliot & Company., J. Elliot & Son and the Bay State Collar Company, manufacturers of paper collars and cuffs. Elliot was a leader in the formation of the Paper Collar Manufacturers Association. Elliot received a patent in 1871 for the Kaleidoscope collar. Papers contain bills, advertising ephemera, notices, business cards, correspondence, and other items relating to the production and distribution of paper collars and cuffs. Papers include a sample collar bearing a patent date of August 14, 1866.
