Summary
S. Newman Darby and Ken Darby conceived, designed and developed The Darby Sailboard in November 1964. Newman Darby, born in West Pittston, Pa., invented windsurfing in 1964 when he connected a sail to a board by means of a universal rope joint. The windsurfer was ultimately patented by Hoyle Schweitzer and Jim Drake in 1970 and became known as windsurfer. Sketches, drawings, plans, patents, legal files, photographs, correspondence, notebooks, illustrated periodicals, advertisements, sketchbooks, film, videocassette, documenting Darby's inventions--the windsurf board, sails, and rigging.
